In preparation for Maha Kumbh 2025, the Government of Uttar Pradesh is undertaking a series of monumental measures to ensure that the event reaches unprecedented levels of grandeur and efficiency. These efforts encompass a wide range of sustainable construction projects. Notable highlights include the construction of flyovers, railway underpasses, and the expansion of city roads. Additionally, major intersections are being beautified to enhance the overall aesthetics of Prayagraj in anticipation of Maha Kumbh 2025.
Every government department is actively engaged in developmental activities. Key initiatives include the upgradation of railway stations and the construction of the new Prayagraj Civil Airport to cater to pilgrims and visitors from around the world. The National Highways Authority of India is also involved in the reconstruction and improvement of major highways connecting Prayagraj to Pratapgarh, Raebareli, and Jasra bypass. To provide convenient transportation to the bathing ghats, the Inland Waterways Authority of India is building jetties, offering point-to-point ferry rides.
The Public Works Department (PWD) is overseeing the construction and widening of roads. Adequate parking facilities are being established at short distances from the Sangam, with more than 84 identified parking areas. Of these, 18 will be developed into satellite towns, complete with public amenities and vending zones, to enhance the pilgrim experience. Over 1000 shuttle buses and numerous CNG auto-rickshaws will be deployed to transport pilgrims. Additionally,12 temporary bus stands are developed.
To manage traffic systematically and efficiently, digital signage will be strategically placed in the Mela area, the city, and transportation zones. Efforts are also underway to maintain cleanliness and hygiene, ensuring an open-defecation-free Maha Kumbh. More than 1,45,000 toilets will be deployed, alongside modern techniques for septage management. A total of 25,000 dustbins will be installed for solid waste collection, which will then be transported out of the Mela area using tippers and compactors.
In pursuit of creating a truly divine and magnificent atmosphere, more than 67,000 LED lights will illuminate the Mela area. To accommodate tourists, a city of premium tents is being established through a public-private partnership model. This tent city will serve as a cultural hub and host various events. To cater to pilgrims, pandals (temporary shelters) are being set up in each sector. The Ganga Pandal, designed for hosting cultural programs on a grand scale, is also being erected. Convention halls are being constructed across the Mela area, offering ample space for gatherings and meetings. Some of the exciting new attractions at Kumbh 2025 will include theme-based gates, mesmerizing laser shows, the Paint My City Campaign, and heli-tourism.
Efforts in traffic management for Maha Kumbh 2025 are being meticulously planned to ensure seamless coordination across multiple channels, integrated with Google Maps for visitor convenience. Telecommunication services, banking facilities, and water ATMs are being deployed throughout the Mela area to facilitate tourists. A state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Center is being established to manage visitor security, which will also include the installation of CCTV cameras across the entire Mela area for enhanced monitoring and risk mitigation.
