As Allahabad prepares to roll out the red carpet to welcome the world for the Kumbh Mela 2019, youth volunteers will be the face and backbone of the event. Keeping this in mind, the Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran, Government of Uttar Pradesh kickstarted the Volunteer Engagement Programme today. Titled the Kumbh Sevamitra, this programme is focussed on mobilising and engaging the youth for the event.
The first pit stop of this event is Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Allahabad where around 150 students attended the event.
Talking about the importance of the volunteer programme, Ashish Kumar Goel, Divisional Commissioner of Allahabad, who was also the chief guest for the event, said, “Volunteering at Kumbh Mela 2019 is a chance of a lifetime. The enrollment programme for Kumbh Sevamitra is aimed at drawing more youth to volunteer at the Kumbh next year. Without their ‘we can do it’ attitude, it would be difficult to conduct a successful event of this magnitude.”
The other important dignitaries present were Dr. Badri Narayan Tiwari, Director, Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Dayanand Prasad, ADM - Kumbh Mela, Bharat Mishra, Additional Mela Officer - Kumbh Mela and O.P. Singh, Additional SP, Kumbh Mela.
The volunteers enrolled in the Kumbh Sevamitra programme would work in five different departments in different roles -- Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran for Boat Management, Tent Services and Ghat Management roles; Kumbh Mela Police Department for Traffic & Movement Management, Crowd Control and Lost & Found Services; Health Department for Health Services; Tourism Department for Tourist Guides and Tourist Services Management and Media and information Department for Press and Media Services Management. The other venues where the event will be held in the coming month are MNNIT Allahabad, IIIT Allahabad and Allahabad University. The exact dates for the event will be announced shortly.
