As Prayagraj prepares to roll out the red carpet to welcome the world for the Kumbh Mela 2019, young volunteers are going to be the face and backbone of Kumbh Mela 2019
Keeping this in mind, the Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran kickstarted the Volunteer Engagement Programme in September 2018. Titled the Kumbh Sevamitra, the ongoing programme is focussed on mobilising and engaging the youth for the event.
With the first pit stop of this event being the Govind Ballabh Pant Social Science Institute, Prayagraj where around 150 students attended the event to the recently concluded one at Allahabad University where it received an overwhelming response from the students with a participation of over 1200 students, this programme brings out the true essence of the Mela.
The enrolment programme for Kumbh Sevamitra is aimed at drawing more youth to volunteer at the Kumbh next year. The volunteers enrolled in the Kumbh Sevamitra programme will eventually work in five different departments in different roles – Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran for Boat Management, Tent Services and Ghat Management roles; Kumbh Mela Police Department for Traffic & Movement Management, Crowd Control and Lost & Found Services; Health Department for Health Services; Tourism Department for Tourist Guides and Tourist Services Management and Media and information Department for Press and Media Services Management. Currently more than 5000 volunteers on normal days and more than 8000 volunteers are providing their services in Kumbh Mela
